Making sure every vote counts

While Russia pouts and cries about the rest of the world being involved in the Ukrainian presidential elections, words comes that opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko was poisoned.

Now who would gain from Yushchenko being physically marred, in constant pain or possible dead? The ones with the clear motive are Viktor Yanukovych, the Prime Minister, who advocated closer ties with Moscow during the presidential election, and Russian President Putin.

Russia has openly backed Yankovych during the first election, which Yankovych won under seemingly less than honest conditions. Now the nation is facing a second run-off vote between the two men scheduled for December 26.

My question is to the American Left. You say that you want to make sure every vote counts. You are going to protest and appeal in Ohio until you can’t protest and appeal anymore. You say Bush is Hitler and that he is the mastermind behind the September 11 attack. Okay, are you going to fight for the votes of the Ukrainian people? Do you care that one of the candidates had an attempt on his life?

For all those that say American politics is in the sewer and so terrible with all the negative ads, when has someone called for the assassination of a presidential candidate. We don’t have those in America. Wait, nevermind.

Update – Josh adds that the President may be showing his support for democracy advocates in the Ukraine through his wardrobe.

Update #2 – There is now conflicting reports about whether or not the clinic that is treating Yushchenko has ruled it as a poisoning. So goes news coming from Europe, especially from a former Soviet state with ties to Putin, formerly of the KGB.
